aSPECT preparing for a new measurement
The discharge issue of aSPECT that occured during the 2011 beam time has been solved at the offline aSPECT zone at ILL. Steps taken include the improvement of the ultra-high vacuum and the refurbishment and partial new construction of some electrodes to remove any sharp edges or points that could lead to field emission. This resulted in the complete absence of any discharges. Also the countrate with all potentials applied as for a measurement is now stable at a timescale of at least 40 minutes.
We have submitted a proposal for a new beam time with neutrons at PF1b for April to June 2013 to measure the beta-neutrino angular correlation in neutron decay with the worlds smallest uncertainties.
